Short Course Turkey
The aim of UWC short courses is to take UWC’s mission and values to a wider audience. Courses are generally organised by groups of UWC alumni or National Committees.
Short courses are usually two to three weeks long and seek to replicate the experience of learning through interpersonal interaction, community work and intercultural understanding. Short courses have taken place in Armenia, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Mexico, the Netherlands, Spain, Timor Leste-Sri Lanka, Turkey, the USA, among others. Participants also come from a variety of national, ethnic, socio-economic and religious backgrounds.
Short courses are usually structured along a thematic focus (e.g. sustainable living, migration, active citizenship, development), determined depending on the circumstances of the hosting country and the target participant group. Short programmes allow participants to:
- Interact in a challenging and stimulating environment with others from a diverse mix of backgrounds;
- Actively participate in community service and develop their understanding of the course theme(s) as well as develop and strengthen skills related to the activities of the course;
- Transfer the skills they develop during their short course experience into active involvement in their own communities when the course has come to an end
"Memorable, connective, incredible - breathtaking!
The short course was an intense experience I will never miss. We lived together, learned from each other and had an amazing time. I got to know new cultures but realized that we actually have our hearts at the same place."
